Jetvig takes Mods

Corky Thomas just about pulled off a rare double at Red River Valley Speedway on Friday.

Too bad Blake Jegtvig found a RaceCeiver that worked.

Thomas took first in the Super Stocks feature, and then finished second to Jegtvig in the Modifieds feature at the West Fargo track on Friday.

“I was trying to get both of the features, but Blake is pretty fast right now,” Thomas said. “Both of my cars were really good tonight, but I still wasn't able to get to Blake's level (in the Modifieds)."

Thomas is the last person to win features in both classes. He accomplished the feat at last year's season championship on Aug. 24, 2007. Jegtvig has won four of the six Modifieds features at RRVS this season. He was also first to the finish last week – but was black-flagged because his RaceCeiver didn't work. Bob Sagen took the win.

The RaceCeiver is an in-car radio that helps track officials set lineups more smoothly.

Sagen and Thomas are the only Modified feature winners at RRVS this season not named Jegtvig.

“I thought that was a bogus deal for Blake to lose a win like that,” Thomas said. “The track should've worked with him and worked something out.”

Thomas started in eighth place in the Super Stocks feature, took the lead with eight laps to go and rolled to the feature win.

Thomas also had a solid car in the Modifieds, but Jegtvig was back to his untouchable form and ran away with the win."

He's on another level right now with that car, and I'm just taking baby steps to get closer,” Thomas said. “We're getting better each week.”

Matt Aukland passed Myron Tschakert with a lap-and-ahalf remaining in the Late Models feature before holding on for the checkered flag.

Fargo's Ryan Restad showed he knows how to end a drought. Restad won his second Midwest Modifieds feature in as many weeks. Before his win on July 18, Restad hadn't won at the track in 14 consecutive shows – dating back to June 8, 2007.

Fargo's Rick Schulz took the win in the Street Stocks feature, and the victory gave him a share of the points lead in the class.

Schulz entered the night just one point behind Jason Babcock of Horace, N.D., in the class. Babcock finished two spots ahead of Schulz in the heat, and third in the feature, putting the two in a tie for the lead.

The broken record known as the Mod Fours continued its predictable run, as Shayne Laske took first in the feature. It was Laske's 18th feature win of the season, and his fifth at the West Fargo track. He has won every feature in the class but one this season.
