If the first two weeks of racing at Red River Valley Speedway are any indication about the rest of the season, all of the classes are going to be close.
The exception might be the Modifieds. Not that Blake Jegtvig is keeping track.
Jegtvig was the only driver to win a feature for the second week in a row, as the Hawley, Minn., driver took the Modifieds feature again on Friday.
“I don't worry too much about points,” Jegtvig said. “People don't remember who wins points titles. They remember who wins races.”
Jegtvig blasted the competition in the season opener last week, but Friday's win was no cake walk.
Jegtvig started in the ninth position in the Modifieds feature, and defending points champ Chad Ohnstad jumped out to an early lead.
But Jegtvig patiently chased him down, passing Ohnstad with a little more than four laps to go for the win.
“I started up front last week, and that always helps,” Jegtvig said with a laugh. “…But I could see that I was catching up to (Ohnstad) on every lap, but it wasn't by that much.
“I knew I was getting him, but I didn't know if I would catch him fast enough.”
Jegtvig was also second in the Late Models feature.
Troy Olson, the defending points champ in the class, ran away with the feature in that class on Friday.
Josh Abrahamson won the Mod Fours feature, leading every lap.
Abrahamson was sharp the whole race – and he had to be. Defending national champion Shayne Laske was right behind him for the entire feature.
Entering Friday, Laske hadn't lost a heat or a feature at any track this season.
After taking second by less than a car length in last week's Midwest Modifieds feature, Brock Gronwold took the checkered flag on Friday.
West Fargo's James Tandeski took first in the Street Stocks feature, holding off a charging Royce Jawaski on the final lap for the win.
