Patient Carter wins Super Stocks

Todd Carter has been around long enough to know that the best things usually come to those who wait.

In Friday’s Super Stocks feature, Carter watched the leaders duke it out, and then he watched them slowly disappear into the pits before rolling to his second feature win of the season at Red River Valley Speedway.

“The attrition level was high tonight,” Carter said with a laugh. “There were a lot of guys getting into each other, and I just kind of hung around.”

With half of the 20-lap feature to go, Carter moved into second place after a couple of cautions that knocked out three cars that were in front of him.

The Lisbon, N.D., driver then passed John Nord with eight laps left and cruised to the feature win.

“We’ve been consistently in the top five all year, and I thought we had about a fifth-place car,” Carter said. “We were set up to run better late, and it worked out for us.”

In the Modifieds feature, the high line was working so well for Chad Ohnstad that Blake Jegtvig decided to give it a try.

Jegtvig saw his lead disappear but went up top to hold off Ohnstad for the checkered flag.

Jegtvig took an early lead, but Ohnstad erased it by using the high side of the track. Ohnstad passed Jegtvig but had to go back to second because of a caution.

On the restart, Jegtvig took the high line from Ohnstad and rolled to the win by leading the final 13 laps.

It was Jegtvig’s third feature win in four tries at Red River Valley Speedway this season.

Winona, Minn., driver Lance Matthees won the 24-car Late Models feature. Matt Aukland led the first 13 laps, but Matthees took the lead on a restart after the caution and never gave up the lead.

Randy Klein of Valley City, N.D., won a wild Midwest Modifieds feature that was led by four different cars.

Rich Pavlicek led most of the first half of the feature but blew a tire with eight laps to go. Brock Gronwold and Ryan Mikkelson also led laps, but Klein grabbed the lead with five laps left and ran away to the checkered flag.

Kimball, Minn., driver Scott Paulson looked like he was going to pick up his second Street Stocks feature win in a row at RRVS, until the last turn.

Paulson had some trouble in the final turn, giving Levi Babcock just enough time to pass him for the checkered flag.

Shayne Laske won the Mod Fours feature, holding off Josh Abrahamson for the win.
